Karah is committed to engaging communities in conversation around documentary photography, and with partners Red Bull Arts and Detroit Startup Week, with her team of officers and volunteers at the Documenting DETROIT project, organized a series of events giving a platform to documentary photographers and filmmakers from Detroit and around the world to discuss ethical documentation and storytelling.

These events are always free and open to the public. Past events have hosted photographers Nina Robinson, Alan Chin, Zun Lee, Romain Blanquart, Andrew Lichtenstein, Carlos Diaz, Eugene Richards, Patricia Lay-Dorsey, Bill Eisner, Salwan Georges, Samantha Appleton, Danny Wilcox Frazier, Ruddy Roye, Rashaun Rucker, Smita Sharma, Devin Allen, Cydni Elledge, and Felicia Tolbert. Filmmakers Logan Siegel, Brian Kaufman, Kathy Kieliszewski, Joshua Riehl, Mike Ramsdell, Pam Sporn, Razi Jafri, Sean O’Grady, producer Doug Blush, and editors Brent Lewis and Kainaz Amaria have also joined us.
